Before Judging an Unknown Configuration as Life, Must the Category of Life Be Activated at All? A Ziran System Audit of NASA's Life-Detection Framework

Abstract

This paper subjects NASA's life-detection framework to a Ziran System audit, asking whether the category 'life' must be activated before any configuration can be evaluated as living. The audit reveals that current life-detection methodology presupposes the validity of the life category rather than treating it as an empirical question subject to configuration-conditional analysis.
